Tweeking

My blog title autocorrected to "twerking"! Hahaha! No. Just...no. That is not the goal for my art. This past show at Lipscomb Academy really got me thinking...about what I'm producing and why. Most of my paintings are clearly representational: a chicken, a flamingo (or two), a castle, a stream. As I grow artistically, the elements are revealing looser brushstrokes, softer edges, better harmony of colors, but I've been considering the unity of my entire display. My hope has been that whether it's a landscape or a flamingo, the feeling of beauty and simplicity remains consistent. My observation at the Lipscomb art show was that many artists display only one, maybe two general subjects; all landscapes or all abstracts. There were also many who stayed within a strict color palette...cream, pale green, and light blue were popular. I have a lot to think about! Do I continue to follow my passion, painting what speaks to me? Or do I see a wisdom in finding a more unified approach in subject, colors, and style?

Meanwhile...I am still doing just a little bit of tweeking (stop it, autocorrect! NOT "twerking") of my other "big" painting, Hidden Garden Ruins  18x24  oil on gallery wrap  $600

Gratitude

I am so thankful for the wonders of the past 3 months. There have been 3 major art shows, commissions and sales and I have seen 15 paintings off to their new homes! Yes, it is humbling and very rewarding to be at this place in my art journey! I am not an ambitious person, except for the desire to make the best effort to excel in what I care about. I'm not sure how to define success as an artist aside from creating the most authentic art I can from what's inside me. Being invited to art shows, receiving recognition in awards, having art patrons buying my work...all these are so encouraging and validating and also very challenging: to keep at it, keep learning, keep growing. And I am especially thankful to all you readers and friends, who support me, encourage me, and help me feel connected with you through  art.  Yay!! You are all awesome!! Thank you!!

Hello! My name is Wendy and I am passionate about oil painting! Whether in the studio or out in Mother Nature, I get lost in the experience of capturing on canvas the moment and the feel of what I am painting. I pour my love and energy into every single piece of artwork and I hope it shows! This blog is a place where I can use words to talk about art, painting, life, faith, things that make me laugh, and things that inspire. I love every response, so don't be shy about leaving a comment...
