"Skagit Valley Tulip Fields" Sometimes people ask me if it's difficult to see a painting go to its new home...don't I want to keep what I create? The answer is I am thrilled to part with what I've painted; I love that what I poured myself into is now connecting me to another person. The truth is that whether the painting comes easily or costs me hours of concentrated work, I experience something intangible and deeply meaningful and I love for it to bless someone else who finds themselves responding to it. And every once in awhile one of my favorites goes to someone I get to visit and see the painting again. Of course, I still have many paintings that haven't flown the coop. An artist needs a "body of work" to hang in an art show, which means 40-50 finished and framed paintings. When I started out this seemed like an insurmountable task but, with many thanks to my wonderful instructors, I paint faster and with much more accuracy and have paintings galore! Only 2 weeks into 2016 I have 3 more finished paintings and 2 commissions well under way. My resolution is to remain committed in the pursuit of becoming a better painter! |
