I was encouraged by fellow artists at the Brentwood Show to do some bigger paintings...yikes! I wasn't sure I could deliver but when I stopped in at Plaza art store and saw their display of large canvases on sale it seemed like a sign to get my courage up and give it a good try. I chose a subject I had painted before, the Abbey de Senanque in Provence where we visited a few years ago. This made composition decisions so much easier and let me play with a subject already familiar to me. I call it "Lavender Fields" and you can see it in person this weekend at the Lipscomb Art Show in Nashville!!

Life can be such a mixed bag of love, loss, joy and grief. Many are saying "good riddance" to 2016, but in my life this year brought a second grandbaby (joy!), a trip to Scotland with dear friends (love!), lots of painting time, art shows, workshops and sales, and more blessings than I can count. There was also a season of loss as my dear friend, Debbie, finished her battle/journey through dementia and now rests with the Lord. It truly was a deep mid-winter this December when our trip to Seattle took us into ERs, ICUs and finally a beautiful Hospice with my father-in-law, who passed away between Christmas and New Year's Day. And so many others are experiencing such loss, pain and grief as well and our prayers for each other bind us together.
Do you make resolutions in each new year? Lots of opportunity to list out goals to achieve and things to do, but what about Being? We are human beings, not human doings. My resolutions are to be: present... open... grateful,,.kind I am grateful for you, faithful readers! And I wish you a beautiful, full, blessed year of Being! |
Hello! My name is Wendy and I am passionate about oil painting! Whether in the studio or out in Mother Nature, I get lost in the experience of capturing on canvas the moment and the feel of what I am painting. I pour my love and energy into every single piece of artwork and I hope it shows! This blog is a place where I can use words to talk about art, painting, life, faith, things that make me laugh, and things that inspire. I love every response, so don't be shy about leaving a comment...Archives
