Oh Mexico! We were there for 2 weeks this winter and every day was sun and warm and sand and sea. I took my plein air paints and easel and painted both outdoors and in our condo. The way the morning sun played with cast shadows on the beautiful stucco wall inspired me to do this painting.
"Mazatlan Morning" 9X12 Original oil on canvas
$150
My favorite time of day (which is a lie…every moment was my favorite) was early morning. I would sit on our balcony with my cup of coffee and watch the sun crest the roof tops and light up the little palm tree by the beach. Adding to the morning delight was the arrival of the Cameroon Man, selling huge, fresh shrimp.
"The Cameroon Man" 9X12 Original oil on canvas
$150
Torres Mazatlan resort has the most beautiful gardens with palapas scattered throughout. I used a little artistic license to move things around a bit for a better composition of the path leading to the "massage palapa." Getting a massage with the sound of waves
and breeze…my favorite!
"Massage by the Sea" 9X12 Original oil on linen panel
$150
At the back of the grounds is an old stucco and concrete building, fairly nondescript, used for storage and repairs. It caught my eye because of its simplicity, color, and bleakness. Again, the Mexican sun brought to life the light and shadows through the foliage and the pathway was a perfect lead-in into the scene. The structure made me think of a rural village building so I added the rooster and a couple of chickens to give it some signs of life.
"Signs of Life" 9X12 Original oil on canvas
$150
